Even in the apocalypse, Blythe has a pep in his step and a big ol’ golly gee shucks smile on his face. Does it look a little pained? Stretched a little too tight? Maybe, but you’d have to look pretty close to really notice any cracks in that facade, and most folks have their own troubles to attend to, so don’t worry about it! The sweaters and polos he’s always had a habit of wearing might not be as crisply ironed and darned as they used to be, but Blythe always wants to make a great first impression, and he sure does try his hardest to look clean and well put together for y’all!

HISTORY
FAMILY Stokely Ferry, dad. Southern Baptist pastor (retired).
Viola Ferry, mama. Housewife.
Siberee Selkirk, older sister. Southern Baptist pastor, took over after their dad's retirement.
Hosea Ferry, older brother. Geography teacher, football coach.
Alyce Wineburner, younger sister. Florist.
✨ Born to a Southern Baptist pastor in Savannah, Georgia, Blythe and his siblings were always expected to be shining examples of good Christian values. And while Blythe never really strayed too far from the rules and certainly never rebelled the way his younger sister might have, he knew from a young age that a life in the church was not in the cards for him. Blythe Ferry was born to be on stage.

✨ Much to his parents’ dismay, Blythe moved to Los Angeles for college, got a taste of that heathenous California lifestyle, and never returned. Well – he returned to visit, and he talked to at least someone in his family almost daily. But he couldn’t stay forever when his improv team needed him (not a one of them can do a proper southern accent), and he had a performance to prepare for, and oh darn he got so distracted thinking about an audition coming up that he didn’t even hear you when you asked him why he hadn’t settled down with a wife and kids yet!

✨ The last time Blythe talked to someone in his family (his sister Alyce), he was getting ready for a performance of Hamlet in Sacramento. Alyce said she couldn’t imagine Shakespeare in his voice and she’d have to come see him soon, maybe when the troupe landed somewhere a little less hectic and this whole outbreak quieted down. But that night, a member of the audience started taking bites out of their neighbors and they fled with their lives and not much else.

✨ They went north from there, following their director’s lead and taking I5 as far as it would let them. Sometimes a group of survivors would take them in, exchanging food and shelter for entertainment and whatever help they could offer. But they never stayed for that long – some groups were too small to sustain more people, others didn’t trust outsiders, and plenty of them were too close to danger for them to risk it. For Blythe’s part, he plastered on a smile and tried to act like this was just another traveling show, just with a real tough crowd.

✨ For about a year, the troupe managed their way through the Pacific Northwest, dragging their caravan through California, Oregon, and most of Washington before their luck ran out. They ran into a feral bear, and no amount of improv training and dramatic monologuing could save them. They lost several people that night, with their managing director, Carnelian Echochard, being one of the hardest losses. Blythe and the others let Edgar put him out of his misery, and then they naturally fell behind him.

✨ The caravan limped their way to Whitney Field to lick their wounds, and they’ve stayed there for the last six months. It’s the longest they’ve stayed in one place, and, for Blythe’s part, he hopes they’ll stick around so they can build something stable here.
MISCELLANEOUS Wears a gaudy cross on a chain under his shirt. It was a gift from his grammy when he graduated high school.

Despite the cross and the whole Church Upbringing, Blythe rarely identifies himself as a Christian, and usually does it either facetiously or when trying to talk to someone he can tell would prefer to deal with a Good Christian Man. His relationship with religion is 😎😎 complicated.

Speaks with a thick Georgia accent, even after thirty years in California. He has a tendency to lean into it, especially when nervous or trying to seem so gosh-darned charming and nonthreatening.

Blood type O-positive.
